Rhode Island rates high for Irish pride

2306285873_e454c3c638Today’s Saint Patrick’s Day, and Providence is one of the top U.S. metropolitan areas for celebrating Irish heritage.

Providence came in fourth for highest percentage of residents claiming Irish descent, with 12.23 percent. Boston came in first, with 18.87 percent of the population saying they have roots on the Emerald Isle.

Irish-Americans are the second-largest ancestral group in the country, coming in behind German-Americans.
