One student in North Kingstown might have swine flu. Governor Carcieri, Dr. David Gifford of the RI Department of Health, and North Kingstown Superintendent Philip Thornton reported the suspected case and the measures being taken at a Statehouse press conference Wednesday afternoon. The school has suspended classes for the next two days.
So far there are two cases of swine flu confirmed in Massachusetts, one suspected in Connecticut, and numerous confirmed cases around New England. Dr. Gifford is calling it “a matter of time” before the flu reaches the Ocean state.
A sample was sent to the CDC last night to determine if the student does have swine flu, but there won’t be final word for 24-48 hours.
Officials continue to recommend standard anti-flu measures: hand washing, coughing into your elbow, staying home if you’re sick, etc.
