Bard began the 8th inning with a 97 mph fastball that was lined into left field by Vernon Wells. The next batter, Scott Rolen lined out. But then Lyle Overbay scorched a double scoring Wells. Bard finished the outing by getting Rod Barajas to foul out. Hideki Okijima came in to finish the inning.
After the game, Bard said, “These hitters probably don’t know a lot about me so the scouting report is pretty limited but they probably do see the fastballs so they’re up there hacking and they hit it real hard.”
The Red Sox won the game 8-3 as David Ortiz hit his first home run in 150 at bats dating back to September 22nd of last year.
