The game was scoreless after first period with Carolina leading the shots 13 to 8. Papa bear Zdeno Chara was making big hits for the Bruins but it was Carolina that got on the board early. Joseph Corvo ripped a shot by Tim Thomas’s shoulder only two and half minutes into the second period. The Bruins went on a powerplay five minutes later to attempt to tie the game but instead succumbed to a shorthanded goal by Carolina’s Matt Cullen. While shorthanded, Hurricanes Chad Larose intercepted a pass along the blue line and brought the puck down the ice for the Cullen goal.
The Bruins were able to out-shoot the Hurricanes but could not manage to find the back of the net. In an interview with Aaron Ward after the second period, he said the Bruins were playing flat and Mark Recchi commented that the Bruins were far too careless with the puck.

Warding off the Bruins
It was the man between the pipes for Carolina that deserved the credit for the win. Goalie Cam Ward stopped the Bruins on multiple occasions to register his second playoff shutout. Blocking 36 shots, Ward was quick with the glove and slammed the door on the Bruins on multiple occasions.

Go Go Black and Gold

Wow! That’s one hell of a flag. Do you know if it was given to people in those seats, or did someone bring it in themselves?
It was given out by the Garden. Did one full loop and then was pulled “backstage”
Hoping B’s will wake up and take Hurricanes in games 3 &4, and come home for a final game 5.
