The Rhode Island House has overwhelmingly voted to approve a bill that would create a medical marijuana program in the Ocean State. This legislation would create three non-profit compassion centers registered with the Department of Health. These centers would distribute marijuana related products to those registered with the state medical marijuana program. This system is based on the model used by California. The state Senate passed a similar bill. The bills passed both chambers with veto proof majorities, which may be necessary to make it law as Governor Carcieri has a track record of rejecting marijuana related measures.
