A person from Westerly has tested positive for the swine flu, becoming the first Rhode Island resident in the state to have a confirmed case of the illness.
The Rhode Island Department of Health said Saturday the person is recovering.
Health Department spokeswoman Annemarie Beardsworth also says a test from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found a North Kingstown high school student does not have swine flu.
The high school was closed last week as a precaution, but could resume activities Saturday.
Beardsworth says there now are three probable cases in the state: two students from Johnson & Wales University and a woman from Smithfield.
Johnson & Wales has canceled class through the weekend and will decide Sunday whether to remain closed next week.
Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
