A taxing decision: this week’s Sound Off winners!

soundoff-prizesWell, we asked for it this week…we asked you what you would change about taxes here in Rhode Island and (shock!) you responded. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to see people getting involved in political issues. Next week, however, I’ll have to brainstorm a question that’s easier to judge. Picking the winners is always difficult, but here goes with this week’s:

Runners-Up

3) Amanda kept it simple: “We need three things to survive – clothing, shelter, and nourishment. We have tax on food and bottled water. We have homeowners taxes. We don’t have tax on clothing…. So, as much as it would suck a little, tax on clothing would be the answer.”

2) But just because Chrissy took longer to outline her thoughts, her answer’s no less valid: “From the looks of it, RI basically taxes everyhing except for the sun that shines thru your window, and the time it takes to ponder this question. Give it time. they will find a way to do so.” Click here to read her whole answer.

This week’s winner

1) Kristin wins by merit of bringing up an argument I haven’t heard before: “I am very opposed to any ’sin’ taxes, especially all those being talked about in regards to food, soda, etc. Food has become the new evil substance, much like tobacco was about 10 years ago.” As always, for this week’s winners and all the others, our readers are welcome to continue the debate in the comments.

Congratulations, Kristin!!! You’ve won a $25 gift certificate to The Prata Bar & Grille in Warwick. We’ll be emailing you shortly with prize pickup info.

For everyone else, thank you so much for playing, and we’ll see you on Monday with a new question!
