Brown University administrators have stated that it is necessary to cut the school’s operating budget by $30 million for the next fiscal year.

Funding will be cut for capital projects and travel as well as other spending. Brown administrators also said change in organization will reveal “administrative processes and procedures that could be eliminated” which implies layoffs.

Brown officials have also said future cuts of up to $90 million in the next 5 years are needed and should be expected.

The funding cuts will not affect the cost of tuition, but financial aid may be harder to aquire.

The only area of study that will not be forced to cut their funds is the Division of Biology and Medicine. [PBN]
