Fish Drops Out of Newport Tournament

Mardy Fish was supposed to play yesterday at the Campbell’s Tennis Hall of Fame tournament in Newport, but at the last minute dropped out to play for the US in the David Cup.  Andy Roddick dropped out with a right hip flexor injury after losing an epic Wimbledon final to Roger Federer 16-14 in the 5th set.  It was the longest 5th set in Wimbledon’s storied history.  Now, it’s Fish to the rescue, heading to Croatia to face Ivo Karlovic and Marin Cilic.  He will team up with James Black and the Bryan brothers will play doubles for the US.

In yesterday’s action in Newport, Americans Robby Ginepri, Taylor Dent, and up and comer Jesse Levine advanced to the second round.  Currently play is suspended due to rain, but defending champion Fabrice Santoro and Americans Kevin Kim, Sam Querrey, and Amer Delic are supposed to be in action this afternoon.
