Women and Infants Hospital opened their new South Pavilion with a ribbon cutting event Monday. The new, 76-million-dollar unit has been in the works for the last five years. Its construction became necessary because of the growing number of premature babies and C-section births. The new pavilion boasts more space – there’s now room for 80 babies. That’s a big upgrade from the former unit, which was designed only for 41 newborns, but routinely held many more.
Hundreds of people were on hand for the ribbon cutting, including Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Providence Mayor David Cicilline. [AP]
