Breaking: Local election results in MA, RI [Latest: Fontaine defeats Brien in Woonsocket]

TurnTo10: Mayor Charles Moreau, the incumbent in Central Falls, has won a fourth term, defeating newcomer Hipoltio Fontes. Meanwhile, in Woonsocket, voters elected their first new mayor in 14 years; city councilman Leo Fontaine will succeed seven-term Mayor Susan Menard in January.

AP: Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has won an unprecedented fifth consecutive four-year term. He’s been in office for 16 1/2 years already. History suggests challenger Michael Flaherty was facing tough odds: no incumbent mayor has lost in Boston in 60 years.

TurnTo10: Will Flanagan will replace Robert Correia as mayor of Fall River. Unofficial results show Flanagan with 61 percent of the vote, to 39 percent for challenger Cathy Ann Viveiros. Correia lost in the city’s preliminary election earlier this year. Meanwhile, in New Bedford, incumbent mayor Scott Lang held on to defeat challenger Fernando Coelho with three-quarters of the vote.

Associated Press: Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch has defeated former Mayor William Phelan in a bitter rematch of their race from two years ago. Unofficial returns from the city showed Koch with 54 percent of the vote, to 46 for Phelan.
