Sophomore forward Jamine Peterson had 18 points, and freshman center Bilal Dixon had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Providence College to a 96-53 win over the Bryant Bulldogs in both teams’ season openers.
The Friars (1-0) played well on both sides of the ball, unveiling a new press-style defense and forcing 21 Bulldog turnovers. The home team also dominating the board, outrebounding the Northeast Conference Bryant side 52-29.
Sharaud Curry, Marshon Brooks and Brian McKenzie also scored in double figures for the Friars. Barry Latham led the Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points.
The Friars will play the Bucknell Bison tomorrow as part of the World Vision Invitational that is being hosted at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Bucknell lost their season opener to the Mercer Bears 89-80.
