Atlantic Hurricane Season Over

A relatively mild Atlantic hurricane season comes to an end today.  During the past six months there were just nine named storms with three becoming hurricanes and two of those reaching category three strength or higher.

Storm forecasters Phil Klotzbach and William Gray from Colorado State University predicted a below-average year, but were surprised by the lack of storm activity.  In addition to an El Nino condition in the Pacific, Klotzbach says a lot of wind shear and dry air suppressed storm development.  Klotzbach and Gray will offer their prediction for the 2010 hurricane season early next month.
