Kings of Leon, MGMT, and the Silversun Pickups are among the contenders for the top prize at 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards. The event, which honors the hottest stars on the college music scene, takes place tonight in New York City.

Green Day and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are some of the other rockers up for awards, while nominees Death Cab and Passion Pit are some of the scheduled performers.

The event will be taped, and make its TV debut December 4th on MTV, MTVU, and MTV2.
