P-Bruins beat Springfield Falcons 5-2

PBruins2

With no more call-ups or call-downs expected from Boston anymore, the P-Bruins played an agressive, fast game last night at the Dunk. On numerous occasions the Bruins were able to get numbers in transition, and while they could not break through in the 1st period, a powerplay goal by Jamie Arniel in the 2nd period showed that their good play would be rewarded. The agressive play did not come only on offense, as the Bruins were blocking shots and deflecting passes with regularity last night. One would think that the P-Bruins dominated the game, except that mental lapses happen when young teams take the ice, and a couple occurred last night.

Coming off a Jeff LoVecchio goal, the Bruins second in the 2nd period, the Falcons won the center-ice faceoff and scored a goal in 15 seconds. A game where they were clearly outplaying their opponent quickly turned into a dogfight as Springfield tied the game with an early third period goal (15:09 left).

But the Bruins were resilient because 30 seconds later they responded with a goal of their own, courtesy of Kirk MacDonald, and put the game away with 7:15 left when the Bruins pushed the puck on a 3-on-2 break. The puck came to Craig Weller who faked like he was going to pass across the goal but instead hit the trailing Guillaume Lefebvre who was then 1-on-1 with the goalie. He did what forwards do and put that in the old onion bag, to put the Bruins up 4-2.

The final goal was an open net goal that came off a turnover that was forced by Jamie Arniel. And since he was all over the ice last night (mentioned in this post twice), I asked Coach Murray about Arniel’s performance.

The P-Bruins have now won 3 of their last 4 games. What has been the difference?
