Rhode Island’s only republican candidate for governor is dropping out of the race. Rory Smith says that as a businessman he would not be able to run a competitive campaign. The remaining candidates to replace Carcieri in 2011 include Attorney General Patrick Lynch and General Treasurer Frank Caprio, both Democrats, and independent Lincoln Chafee, a former U.S. senator.
