The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation announced Thursday $2.7 million in grants will support 16 renewable energy projects.

The grants administered by the EDC’s Renewable Energy Fund will support projects by businesses, municipalities and community organizations aimed at increasing energy efficiency in the Ocean state.

One recipient, the city of East Providence, is receiving $100,000 for a project to redevelop an old landfill into a solar farm.

Just don’t let the sun hit the garbage.
