The Rhode Island Governor is asking the federal government to ease marijuana restrictions, allowing states to regulate the use of the drug for medical purposes. Chafee announced yesterday he and Washington Governor Chris Gregoire have petitioned the Drug Enforcement Administration to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule II drug. That would allow it to be dispersed for medical purposes. Chafee blocked medical marijuana dispensaries in Rhode Island because federal prosecutors warned they could face prosecution for violating federal drug laws.
