Providence Metropolitan Area Ranks Worst in U.S. for Hispanic Unemployment

The local metropolitan area, which includes Providence, New Bedford, and Fall River, had a jobless rate of 23.3 percent in 2011. That’s double the national Hispanic jobless rate for the same year. The Providence metropolitan area was the only one in the nation to have Hispanic unemployment above 20 percent. These rates were calculated by the nonprofit Economic Policy Institute in Washington.
