Schools increase meat standards

Students will be eating safer beef in school cafeterias this fall. The Agriculture Department says the government will require higher standards for ground beef purchased in schools. The standards will force producers to test the beef for contamination more often and will stop them from using certain trimmings.

Teachers Union Sues Central Falls HS

A Rhode Island teachers’ union has sued Central Falls High School, which fired all its teachers and staff. The union is challenging a requirement that all of the fired teachers reapply for their jobs. No more than half can be rehired under a federal turnaround model selected for the school district.
